Processing and design

Externally, the Anker SoundCore 2 has a solid impression, it is well processed and has no flaws. In order to ensure the specified IPX5 (protection against water jets from all directions), the speaker is except of the front covered with a matt rubber coating, which prevents the penetration of water.

Anker Soundcore 2 Design

The speaker is very simple in colour, it is only available in black and has no other eye-catching design. In my opinion, it does not need it either, since the speaker is intended for outdoor use –functionality is more important then design.

Despite the relatively compact design with the dimensions 168 x 47 x 56mm, the outdoor speaker weighs 414 g. The weight goes along with the 5200mAh strong battery, which according to the manufacturer for up to 24 hours of music reproduction. In comparison, the Mpow Armor, with the same battery capacity, weighs about one kilo and the Aukey SK-M12 weighs about 650 grams, with a lower battery capacity.

Connections

The connections of the Anker SoundCore 2 are located on the right side of the speaker, these are protected by a rubber cap before the penetration of water.

Anker SoundCore 2 Handling
The rubber cap unfortunately does not reach into the connections, they covers them only.

A USB port to use the Speaker as a Powerbank or a SD card slot is not available here.

Handling

The speaker can be operated with a total of five buttons, which are installed on the upper side of the loudspeaker. In order to guarantee protection against water, the buttons are completely covered with protective rubber.

The sound of the Anker SoundCore 2

In the inside of the outdoor speaker there are two 6 watt drivers, each with a size of 1.5 inches. This means that the Bluetooth speaker is in the middle of the outdoor speakers we have tested.

Despite to the almost completely closed body, the loudspeaker develops a solid bass, which is audibly stronger than the Aukey MK SK-M12. Also the ranges of the high and middle tone are ok. Overall the sound of the loudspeaker is coherent and I have during the testing not the feeling that a frequency range is particularly dominated or particularly weakly pronounced.

In the direct comparison to the Mpow Armor Plus, you notes that the speaker sounds quite monotonous due to its compact design and the relatively small drivers. The larger Mpow Armor Plus has more to offer. Due to the built-in passive radiator, the sound has more depth and is much more spatial.

Conclusion

For the compact and type of construction of the Anker SoundCore 2, the sound of the small speaker is ok. The sound is coherent and there is no noise. Overall, the loudspeaker is well processed and has no flaws. In my opinion the biggest advantage is the very large 5200 mAh battery.
