Design and workmanship
The EarFun UBOOM reminds me at first glance of the Anker Soundcore Flare, which we already tested last year for you. But the UBOOM lacks the characteristic LED ring.
With the dimensions of 16,7 x 8,8 x 8,8 cm and a weight of 585 g the UBOOM is comparable to the Tribit BTS XBoom and MaxBoom. The loudspeaker has a conical shape and has a diameter of 8.8 cm on the underside and only 7 cm on the top.
As so often this Bluetooth speaker is kept in a plain black. The top and bottom are rubberized, while the body is covered with a waterproof textile fabric.
The design of the EarFun UBOOM is overall simple and timeless and fits practically everywhere. Anker with the Soundcore Flare is definitely a little more courageous. You already know the conical shape from other models, but I like it and it goes well with a 360° loudspeaker.
There is nothing to complain about in the processing of the Bluetooth loudspeaker. The UBOOM makes a neat impression on me and has no material or production defects.
Sound of the EarFun UBOOM
The EarFun UBOOM is equipped with 2 x 12 Watt speakers. These are located on the underside of the speaker, on the left and right side. Two passive radiators for a full bass have been installed.
I must honestly say: I postponed the test of the EarFun UBOOM for quite some time, because I didn’t think I could do anything with the rather unknown Chinese manufacturer, but I was told otherwise.
Already with the first listening I thought to myself, “okay, I wouldn’t have expected such a full sound now”. The EarFun has a powerful low frequency in the test with different music styles, which neither scratches nor overdrives.
In comparison, the Anker Soundcore Flare can’t keep up, whose low frequencies seem flatter and less powerful. Compared to the Tribit BTS30 XBoom, however, I would describe the bass as equivalent. While the tribit BTS30 XBoom is equipped with a bass boost, the bass of the UBOOM can be reduced with the “outdoor mode”. However, even at full volume it rarely overdrives, but actually regulates itself well.
The EarFun UBOOM also delivers a beautiful sound in the high and mid frequencies. The treble doesn’t sound distorted, but remains precise even at full volume. The midrange is not too intrusive, but blends in well with the overall sound and provides a great stage for vocals.
Compared to the Tribit BTS30 XBoom, the sound is very similar, I can hardly see any differences between the speakers. But in a direct comparison you can hear that the 360° surround sound of the EarFun UBOOM works a bit better. This is probably due to the round shape, which allows the sound to spread better in all directions, while the BTS30 is angular.
True wireless stereo with two UBOOMs
What is better than a Bluetooth Speaker? Right, two Bluetooth speakers paired as one unit in stereo mode.
Before some people say, “That’s unnecessary, what do you need something like that for?”, it should be said, you may not need it, but in general two Bluetooth speakers in stereo mode make the sound so much better, more spacious and more powerful, you have to hear that!
It is also possible to cover a larger area without having to turn up the loudspeaker to its maximum volume. This way the sound remains more beautiful for my taste and you can also have a pleasant chat right next to the loudspeaker.
In the test with two UBOOMs, listening to music with the speakers is simply even more fun, it’s real stereo, not dual mono. The connection between the speakers remains stable in the test at a distance of about 15 meters, a good value. The coupling of the two speakers also works reliably and within a few seconds.
I’m honest, I wouldn’t have thought the EarFun UBOOM would do that, but in the end I’m pretty excited and the Bluetooth speaker is definitely a good alternative to Tribit or Anker depending on the current supply situation.
Bluetooth Range & Connectivity
The EarFun UBOOM is equipped with the latest Bluetooth 5 standard. According to the manufacturer, it should have a range of up to 30 meters.
In the test we could not confirm this value completely, on free surface there were the first connection dropouts with a distance of about 25 meters, nevertheless a very good value!
In closed rooms, the connection within a room remains stable. If, on the other hand, there are massive obstacles in between, such as walls or the like, the range drops rapidly.
The EarFun UBOOM’s connectors are located on the back and are hidden behind a thick rubber cap. If the cap fits correctly, no water or sand can penetrate into the Bluetooth speaker.
The connectors include a 3.5 mm AUX input and a current USB-C charging connector – no Micro-USB, very nice!
Operation
The loudspeaker has a total of six control buttons, which are implemented on the upper side.

Connect stereo mode
If you want to connect two loudspeakers to each other, one of the two must first be connected to the smartphone. If this is successful, press the Bluetooth button on both speakers for five seconds. The two loudspeakers then automatically connect to each other.
In the test, the process worked smoothly – very well! Unfortunately, it is not possible to see which speaker is left and which is right, this can only be determined with the help of a stereo test.
Battery life of the UBOOM
The EarFun UBOOM is equipped with a 4400 mAh strong battery, which according to the manufacturer is sufficient for a battery life of up to 16 hours. In the test, at a volume mix of 50-70 %, we could achieve a battery life of almost 14 hours, which is still a good value!
The recharging takes about 4 hours, quite a long time. Depending on the socket adapter used, the charging time can also vary slightly.
Conclusion of the UBOOM Speaker
The EarFun UBOOM surprised me in many ways and is a good, equivalent alternative to the Tribit BTS30 XBoom. The Bluetooth loudspeaker is very well made and has no defects and makes a good impression on me.
The conical shape, which is reminiscent of the Anker Soundcore Flare, has a positive effect on the 360° sound and makes it a bit better for my taste than that of the Tribit BTS30 XBoom. All in all, the two speakers are very similar in sound and convince for a speaker of this size with a powerful and beautifully tuned sound.
Buy the EarFun UBOOM?
With its regular price, the UBOOM is slightly more expensive than the Tribit BTS30 and the only thing that makes it significantly better is that it is equipped with the newer USB-C charging port. Can be an argument, but in my opinion it doesn’t have to be. However, if the EarFun is available at a lower price, it is really a good alternative, thanks to Amazon vouchers and flash offers, should this definitely happen now and then.
