Haylou Smartwatch for $30: a Mi Band 4 alternative?

Hey, guys! Just a heads up: The linked offer is already a bit older and the price of the gadget might have changed or it might not be available anymore.

We already know the manufacturer Haylou through their headphones, and we liked the GT1 Pro especially in view of the low price. The first Smartwatch of the manufacturer is almost as cheap now, the Haylou “Smartwatch” is already available for about $30. However, it is of course more of a fitness tracker than a full-fledged Smartwatch.

A cheap bip?

“Another bip?” was my first reaction to the clock when I saw the first picture. Because the Haylou Smarwatch also uses an almost square design like the Amazfit Bip does. However, this is a high-resolution color LC display with a screen diagonal of 1.3 inches. This makes the panel minimally larger, but relies on a 240 x 240 p resolution, while the Bip offers “only” 176 x 176 pixels in comparison. Another difference is the function key on the right-hand side, which is elongated rather than round on the Haylou Smartwatch.

The LS01, as the model name suggests, is available in two colors: black and white. The connecting pieces of the watch with the silicone strap are somewhat reminiscent of the Amazfit GTS, but do not appear quite so filigree in the product pictures. Due to the smaller display, the Haylou LS01 Smartwatch measures 40.9 x 35, 7 mm for the actual watch. The silicone strap has a length of 253.8 mm and a width of 26.3 mm and can be easily changed.

Just like the Amazfit Bip, the fitness strap has an IP68 rating, which means that it is protected against dust and water. So you should be able to shower and swim with it every day without any problems.

Range of functions

As this is not a real Smartwatch, but rather a fitness tracker or fitness watch, information about processor and memory is not necessary. The functional range is congruent with probably more than 90% of all fitness trackers. This of course includes a pedometer, sleep tracking and the integrated heart rate monitor that is located on the bottom of the device. In addition, there are 9 different sports activities, such as jogging, cycling, free training and even yoga.

There is also a notification function, also for incoming calls, and time functions such as the popular alarm clock. So you can be woken up by vibration. Breathing training is also integrated, such a function should also be included in the Honor MagicWatch 2, for example.

However, the battery, which is above average with 210 mAh, is interesting. For comparison: a Xiaomi Mi Band 4 offers a 135 mAh battery capacity, the bip still offers 190 mAh. This should result in a runtime of “only” 14 days, which is still quite reasonable. The own Haylou Sport app is used as an app for the watch. This is an advantage over so many other providers who rely on a universal app for their Smartwatches.

Evaluation

Actually there are fitness trackers like this Haylou “Smartwatch” like sand on the beach. However, the previous quality of the manufacturer plus the cooperation with Xiaomi is an argument for taking a closer look at this watch. For the price, it will mainly depend on the app usage and the display, the runtime of 2 weeks is likely. In contrast to the Bip, GPS and the always-on display are missing.

Although the watch is only available in China so far, the Haylou GT1 Pro headphones are also available as an import, including CE mark, so we are optimistic in this regard. Could the smart watch be a competitor for the Mi Band 4?
