Smartphone gimbals are now a dime a dozen. The Hohem iSteady X gimbal is one of the lightest and smallest. Nevertheless, it can also stabilize larger smartphones.

Weighing in at 259 grams, the iSteady X is one of, if not the, lightest smartphone gimbal on the market and can support up to 280 grams despite its light weight. When unfolded, the gimbal measures 230 x 79 x 39 mm and phones with a width of 55-90 mm can be mounted in the clamp. The 2000 mAh battery takes two hours to charge and lasts for eight hours. The motors allow the smartphone to rotate 320 degrees and tilt 270 degrees. At the same time, they are built in such a way that you can’t see anything from the gimbal even with the wide-angle lens. The package includes the gimbal itself, a USB cable, a pouch, a wrist strap and a small tripod.
The iSteady X is not only beginner-friendly because of its price, but its operation is also relatively straightforward. I think you can use it well for vlogging and Instagram or TikTok.
The app is free and has some features to play around with and get cool effects. The only problem is that the image quality will probably be a bit worse than in the standard camera app, for example, with Snapchat or Zhiyun’s ZY Play app there is also a slight loss of quality. Without the app, however, the iSteady X can do relatively little. Camera movement is stabilized, of course, and double-clicking the middle button realigns the gimbal. The bottom two buttons can be used to switch between horizontal and vertical filming. With the Hohem Pro app, you can then access features like face tracking, timelapse, dolly zoom, panorama, and an inception mode where the camera rotates 270 degrees. You can also use various filters and zoom on the gimbal itself.
The iSteady X seems to be good value for money and by being so small and lightweight it is suitable for on the go. The gimbal is beginner friendly and the app offers a lot of creative freedom, even if you have to accept some loss of quality.
