With 4 levels, 3 lamps & 2 modes
In contrast to the Nitecore HC60, the Nitecore NU25 is not equipped with an additional fastening strap. But the strap is not completely black, but comes in a black and white pattern with yellow Nitecore writing. In the front is the actual headlamp, which is attached to the elastic band with a bracket. Like the holder, the Nitecore NU25 is made of ABS plastic and weighs only 28 grams. Thanks to its dimensions of 5.5 x 3.4 x 2.3 cm, the lamp would also fit loosely in your pocket. As the headlamp is intended for outdoor use, it is IP66-rated. Therefore it is dustproof and protected against water jets. So rain should not be able to harm it.
The NU25 offers a luminous flux of 360 lumens, making it not the most powerful headlamp in Nitecore’s range. The NU32 even offers 550 lumens, but is also slightly more expensive. The NU25 is equipped with a CREE XP – G2 S3 LED and can shine in four different brightness levels. On the headlamp, there is a red (13 lumens) and a white auxiliary light (20 lumens) in addition to the main light, with which you can use for example an SOS mode and a “beacon”. There are two function keys on the upper side of the lamps for this purpose.
The battery turns out sufficiently large with 610 mAh and can be charged by micro USB cable. This is enough for a usage of 8 hours, if you shine on the middle setting with 38 lumen. If you switch to turbo mode with 360 lumen, the battery only lasts for about half an hour. It is therefore recommended to take a power bank with you on your trip.
Assessment
The gadgets we’ve tested so far from Nitecore have been great. We couldn’t test the Nitecore NU25 headlamp, but it is a bit more attractive in price than other models and has basic features. If you have experiences with the NU25 or Nitecore headlamps in general, please let us know in the comments!
