Oppo Find X: Less edge has never been – now available for $899.99
Some smartphones have already claimed to have the first truly borderless display. We are slowly approaching the end here, because the Oppo Find X has no screen edges apart from a distance of about three millimeters under the display. The accommodation of the selfie camera is solved here in its very own and different way compared to the Vivo NEX.

Oppo is one of China’s largest smartphone manufacturers, but unlike Xiaomi and especially Huawei, it did not make the leap to the West. The situation is similar with Vivo, who recently presented their own rimless mobile phone with the Vivo Nex and its extendable selfie camera. Oppo goes one step further with the Find X. The display has no edge at the top, no notch and no camera. Instead, a piece of the smartphone can be “extended”. Both cameras (front and rear) and a sensor for face recognition are located on this moving part.
On the hardware page we find the latest flag ship equipment. The Snapdragon 845 is also used in the Mi 8 and Mi MIX 2S. 8 GB RAM and 256 GB memory are also top values. The 3,730 mAh battery will be challenged by the very large display and an additional mechanical component. In addition, the Oppo Find X with 9.4 mm is significantly thicker than many current top smartphones.
The Verge has already received the smartphone exclusively as a pre-release version and produced a small hands-on video here. In our opinion, the design of the Oppo Find X is very good, and the functionality of the slider (that’s how we call the moving element) looks good.

The 6.42″ display on a “only” 156.7 mm high smartphone is covered with 2.5D glass with curved edges on both sides. This is very reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9 Plus, for example, which also produce the panel. Interestingly, the fingerprint scanner is completely missing; the back is completely smooth. As with the Vivo Nex or the Mi 8 Explorer, it is also not located under the display. Instead, the smartphone can be unlocked using face recognition. When switching on the mobile phone, the slider at the top is extended in only 0.5 seconds.
Notch or moving camera – What is establishing itself?
Of course there are also some problems with the mechanical elements. How susceptible is the mechanism to dust and dirt? How often can it be activated before wear and tear occurs? And what a case for the mobile phone could look like, we can’t quite imagine. Nevertheless: After all we have seen so far, we like the design very much. Whether designs like the Oppo Find X or the Vivo Nex will prevail, however, time will show.
But we are also looking forward to your opinion. What do you think about the design of the smartphone?
