Modern design with touch control
At first glance, this portable night light, which is often associated with Xiaomi in the shops through the sale via Youpin, is actually reminiscent of the Xiaomi bedside lamp 2. A cylindrical shape with rounded edges, the base and the dimensions of 10.4 x 8 cm are similar. The handle on the top makes the light easy to transport. You change between three brightness levels by touching the lamp on the top.
The integrated LEDs offer a color temperature between 3000 and 4000 K, which allows you to choose between warm white and neutral white. Inside there is a 1,200 mAh battery, which can be charged either by micro-USB or wirelessly.
For this you need the wireless charging station offered in the set. Due to its elongated shape it measures 22 x 8.8 x 1.75 cm and offers not only a dedicated Qi charging station but also a shelf for headphones or keys. There are ventilation slots on the underside, because the charging station needs an input power of almost 15W to manage an output power of 10W. Although there are already 30W Qi charging stations from Xiaomi, 10W is still the current standard. But for the input power one needs a USB charger that is not included in the scope of delivery. This can then be connected via the USB-C port.
So if you put the lamp on the Qi charging station, it charges wirelessly and if you need it somewhere else, you can simply take it down and place it somewhere else until the 1,200 mAh battery is empty. Since the Qi charging standard is usually open, the lamp should also be compatible with all other Qi charging stations. This would also explain why both the lamp and the charging station are sold separately.
Assessment
It makes sense for manufacturers not to limit Qi charging technology to smartphones only. In our opinion, it is also practically integrated here, we like the modern look and the charging station is also sufficiently strong with 10W. Personally, I can imagine the lamp to be great for a dimmed light on the balcony, especially if you don’t have a power connection there.
Only the price is a bit high. After all, theoretically, one has to buy the charger and for a similar price one gets the smart Xiaomi Mijia bedside lamp 2 with a much larger range of functions. Could the portable night light find its way to your apartment or balcony?
