Redmi Suitcase – 20 Inch Hand Luggage Case Introduced Together With Redmi K20

Actually Redmi wanted to introduce on 28.05.2019 only the new Redmi K20. But then there was also a new laptop and surprisingly also a suitcase. It should cost only about $40 in China. Will it also be available for us at this price?

Redmi has been an independent company since the beginning of 2019 and has been separated from the parent company Xiaomi. At first it seemed as if they were going to concentrate entirely on the smartphone segment, but then came the Redmi AirDots, which surprised us. Now this hand luggage case was also announced. We remember: Xiaomi also sells 90Fun cases, with which the Group has a partner. In the past, we have already reported on several models. Will Redmi be able to establish a presence here with its own model?

Design and workmanship – I see red

The red colour of the Redmi suitcase is of course the most conspicuous on the outside. Where Xiaomi and 90Fun focus on business and more neutral colours such as black, grey and dark blue, the Redmi case is a real eye-catcher. On the one hand, this is certainly due to the name of the brand, but on the other hand the colour red has a different meaning in China than for us and has a positive connotation throughout. And so that everyone can see who the suitcase comes from, the brand name is simply written in large letters on it.

The material used here is three-ply polycarbonate (PC), polyester fabric inside. Nothing unusual so far. The rollers should be especially quiet, but that’s what every manufacturer claims. The zipper can be secured with a TSA lock, which is also positive, but should be standard anyway.

A look inside: Here, too, there was no shortage of space and it was divided up meaningfully by separators. This creates two main chambers, which can be closed individually, and a space for small items that you want to have quickly at hand. The divider on the right also has two additional compartments, as can be seen in the picture.

Assessment of the Redmi case

It is interesting to note that Redmi seems to want to broaden its product range and is now producing a case in addition to smartphones and, most recently, in-ear headphones. It remains exciting whether we will see more products in the future. Not much can yet be said about the case itself. Firstly, the price must be right. It will be a little over the $40 that the suitcase costs in China. In addition, the quality must then be right (measured by the price), which can only be reliably evaluated after a longer test.

So far the Redmi suitcase is only listed at Banggood and there also still at a disproportionately high price. Hopefully it will soon be available in other shops as well. We are cautiously optimistic and wait for further development. How do you feel about Redmi’s course to also focus on other products besides smartphones?
