Design: Mixture of Huawei GT 2 & Amazfit Stratos 2
Contrary to the trend of Amazfit GTS and the Xiaomi Mi Watch Smartwatch, with a square design, the UMIDIGI Uwatch GT is classically round. With two crowns for operation, a rather solid case and a rubber wrist strap, it reminds me of a diver’s watch.
UMIDIGI adheres to the standards when it comes to dimensions. Like most Smartwatches, the UMIDIGI Uwatch GT has a diameter of 47 mm, but at 14.9 mm it is not the thinnest. The Huawei Watch GT 2 is only 10.75 mm thick and the Xiaomi Mi Watch 12.28 mm thick.
It comes on the market in two color variants. In the “Matte Black” Edition, the bracelet is black and the watch itself is grey. More experimental is the “Midnight Green” Edition, which is equipped with an olive green bracelet and a bronze-colored case. On the back, where there is also a heart rate monitor and charging contacts, a carbon pattern is embossed into the case. We already know a similar pattern from the Amazfit Stratos 2.
I really like the design of the UMIDIGI Uwatch GT. Especially the color combination of the “Midnight Green” edition in olive green-bronze meets my taste, but is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea.
Technical data of the UMIDIGI Uwatch GT
UMIDIGI hasn’t really revealed much yet. The Uwatch GT is equipped with Bluetooth 5, the chip comes from the Norwegian manufacturer “Nordic Semiconductor”. Unfortunately, there’s nowhere to tell you exactly which model it is. UMIDIGI probably wants to create trust in the area of connection quality with a European supplier.
The screen is a 1.3 inch TFT color display. There will be no Always-On mode. Nothing is yet known about the battery capacity, but UMIDIGI promises a runtime of up to 15 days, which would be a strong value. How long the watch will last in practice will probably only be shown by a test in everyday life.
As mentioned before, the watch is also ATM 5 certified. This means that the watch can withstand the pressure of a water column of 50 metres. However, this does not mean that you can dive to a depth of 50 metres. With ATM 5 certified watches it is possible to swim on the water surface, but I would advise against diving.
12 sports modes & sports tracking via app
A total of 12 sports modes are implemented on the proprietary operating system. These include jogging, running, cycling, hiking and swimming.
The free “Very Fit Pro” app for Android and iOS is used for communication with the smartphone.
In the Google PlayStore, the app is rated 3.1 stars in over 39,000 reviews, in the Apple App Store it is 2.6. Apparently, the app is not programmed specifically for the UMIDIGI Uwatch, but is compatible with various models.
Evaluation
Personally I don’t think the UMIDIGI Uwatch GT is visually wrong, at least on the published render photos. How the Smartwatch looks like on real pictures we will probably only find out on November 28th, when the Smartwatch will be released on the global market.
Bluetooth 5 and ATM 5 sound good at first, but I’m a bit cautious about sports tracking without GPS and the smartphone app used. Also a battery life of 15 days, with a not exactly economical TFT display, sounds interesting. If you are looking for a cheap fitness tracker with swim tracking, you could take a look at the Xiaomi Mi Band 4.
I am curious how the UMIDIGI Uwatch GT will perform in practice. If you have any ideas or suggestions about what we should look at in detail at the Smartwatch – please feel free to write us in the comments!
