Xiaomi is and remains one of the most popular brands from China and what else do they have in their extensive range: from vacuum robots, to fitness wristbands, to laptops. This selection is now extended by another gadget, the Xiaomi M365 electric scooter. Whether it is as useful and useful as the ballpoint pen or as innovative as the Black Shark Gaming smartphone remains to be seen.

The Xiaomi M365 electric scooter in detail

The 108 x 43 x 114 cm electric scooter offers enough space for one person and can be folded to 108 x 43 x 49 cm in a few easy steps. For this purpose, however, for the first time (only) the handlebars must be tightened with four screws after receipt of the package. The Allen key, as well as a short manual in Chinese, is included.

Just tighten the handlebars and off you go.

The scooter takes you up to 30km with one battery charge, after that it has to be connected to the charger for about 5.5 hours. On receipt, about 70% of our e-scooter was pre-loaded. The range is quite dependent on the rider’s weight. The further away you are from the maximum load of 100kg, the further the scooter will take you – logically.

Sufficiently large tyres are suitable for any terrain.

During the ride our Xiaomi M365 electric scooter can reach up to 25km/h, in power saving mode up to 18km/h. The power saving mode can be activated by double-clicking on the on-switch. In our experience, 25km/h on the scooter are really very fast. If you decide to ride on a sidewalk/bicycle path, you may only have a very short reaction time if, for example, a pedestrian suddenly comes out of a door. With IP54 the electric scooter is unfortunately only protected against splash water from all directions, so it is not completely watertight. Could be problematic in very wet weather.

Easy to fold and handy design.

Safe driving is guaranteed by the E-ABS on the front wheel and the mechanical disc brake on the rear wheel. E-ABS is specially designed for e-bikes and ensures shorter braking distances. Nevertheless, at 25 km/h the braking distance should not be underestimated!

In the dark, a 1.1 watt front light and a red rear light provide the necessary lighting. Braking processes are shown here by a suitable flashing of the tail light.

The Xiaomi M365 electric scooter also has a kinetic energy system. So if you still have some performance in your body and start with your own leg, then the electric scooter can store this energy and your range will improve. With its 12.5 kilos, the scooter is certainly not a lightweight, carrying it to the fourth floor is more strenuous than you might expect, despite the possibility of folding it up quickly.

The M365 is available in plain black or white aluminum which looks quite stylish and classy.

The Xiaomi M187 Electric Scooter

Recently there is a Youth Edition of the M365 electric scooter. This is identical in construction to the M365, but has less battery power, since only 20 of the 18650 batteries are installed instead of 30. As a result, the range of the M187 is only 20 kilometres. Furthermore, it is half a kilo lighter and has a specified maximum weight of 120 instead of 100 kilos. For larger and heavier people with shorter distances to travel, this could develop into a good alternative.

Xiaomi / Ninebot App

With the official Ninebot app (iOS & Android) you can connect to the Xiaomi M365 via Bluetooth. Updates are offered immediately after the first connection. In our case a firmware and battery update. However, this can also be initiated later manually via the menu.

The app can also be used to activate the power-saving mode and a kind of “immobiliser”. This uses the electromagnets to brake the wheels. If you move the scooter nevertheless, it starts beeping and the mobile phone vibrates. The scooter can also no longer be switched off. Nevertheless, you can simply fold up the China gadget and carry it away. So this feature is max. a “gimmick” and does not replace a reasonable lock!

Without registration you can also view all kinds of useful information, such as the remaining or already covered range. The light can be switched on/off, the metric system can be changed and the cruise control and the tail light can be (de-)activated.
