8 Inch Display & Redmi Design
After XDA developers could already read first details out of a firmware some time ago, we now know thanks to first leaks how the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 looks like. The size is defined by the 8 inch display, which is the linchpin of the tablet. This is probably a Full HD display with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and not 18:9 as initially assumed. The design reminds us very much of the Redmi devices, like the Redmi 6 and 6 Pro. This is due to the white front that surrounds the display panel. We see relatively thin screen borders on all sides and the front camera on the upper edge.
The back is available in either rose gold or classic black. In the golden tone you can see a white bar on the upper back. Next to it there is also a camera module. The top also has a 3.5 mm jack connector and a USB Type C slot on the bottom for charging the device.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 with strong CPU
The processor of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is the Snapdragon 660 processor, which is also used in the Xiaomi Mi 6X and Mi Note 3. This is a powerful eight-core processor consisting of 260 cryo cores with a maximum clock frequency of 2 GHz. Since we could already test this CPU in the Mi Note 3, we can speak from experience that it is a strong processor!
There are two or three versions of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4, the cheapest is the 3/32 GB version, and there is also a version with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory. The main memory is even the faster DDR4 standard. A 6,000 mAh battery supplies both versions with the necessary power.
Of course, Xiaomi also wants to use cameras that are rather secondary to a tablet. The main camera is the Omnivision OV13855 sensor with 13 megapixels and a ƒ/2.0 aperture including Portait mode. A 5 megapixel sensor called Samsung S5K5E8 is in use on the front panel. It is also very likely that the Mi Pad 4 will be available with Android 8.1 and the latest MIUI interface.
The smallest 3/32 GB version has WLAN connectivity only. If you want to use mobile data, you need the more expensive 4/64 GB version with LTE.
Face detection for the tablet
One of the most interesting features is the possibility to unlock the tablet with its face. However, this works purely on a software basis and without additional infrared sensors as with the Xiaomi Mi 8. Xiaomi does without a fingerprint sensor such as the Teclast Master T8.
Therefore we are pleased about a modern USB type C slot and a 3.5 mm jack plug. So Xiaomi leaves nothing to be desired on this page. In addition, there is Bluetooth 5.0, fast ac-WLAN and, at least with the expensive version, LTE, GPS, A-GPS and GLONASS.
Evaluation & prices of the Mi Pad 4
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB memory without LTE should cost 1499 Yuan, so about $240. The more expensive version with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory probably costs 1999 Yuan, so about $300, with LTE it will be even more expensive.
We are very satisfied with the hardware configuration for the tablet and rate the Mi Pad 4 as a good tablet. After all, the Mi Pad 3 is now over one and a half years old and sold out everywhere. How do you feel about a possible successor? Superfluous or overdue?
