Xiaomi Mi Portable Mouse 2 with Bluetooth & Wireless Receiver for $20.13
Xiaomi has already had a small portable mouse in its portfolio for a few years. Now they have successfully launched a second version via crowdfunding, namely the Xiaomi Mi Portable Mouse 2. Instead of only having Bluetooth at the start, you can now also connect it via a built-in wireless receiver. Practical companion for the laptop on the go?

Familiar design with new colors
From a purely visual standpoint, the new model is difficult to distinguish from its predecessor. With its dimensions of 109.8 x 60 x 25.7 mm, it is also virtually the same size and the weight of 68 g is just 11 g more than the predecessor. Furthermore, an aluminum case and a plastic mouse wheel are also used. There is a choice of a silver with white buttons and a dark gray with black buttons this time.
The mechanism to open the mouse is new, because it is located on the top and you simply take off the top cover there. There you will find the battery compartment, where you can insert the AA battery and the 2.4 GHz radio receiver of the mouse.
The battery should last for about a year, depending on the selected connection mode and the duration of use. A red LED on the top warns you as soon as the capacity drops below 10% so that you don’t suddenly run out of mouse power.
Simple switch between Bluetooth & wireless reception
The big innovation is the integrated 2.4 GHz wireless receiver, which can be used in addition to the Bluetooth 4.2 connection. A button has now been installed on the top of the mouse, which allows you to switch between Bluetooth and wireless. Thus, you can use the mouse on two devices, for example, to connect your laptop via Bluetooth and your desktop PC via wireless receiver.
A setting for the mouse’s DPI is also at the start, for which there is another button next to the power switch on the bottom. You can use this to switch through the four presets (1200 dpi, 1800 dpi, 2400 dpi, 4000 dpi). You can also use the mouse on different systems. Officially, Xiaomi states support for Windows 10, macOS 10.10+ and Android 6+.
Assessment
It launched in China for around $12 and you can already find it in China stores. A fair price in my opinion, for a small uncomplicated mouse with two reception options. What do you think of the new Xiaomi mouse model?
