Xiaomi Mijia Refrigerator Exclusive Edition with 550L Volume & Xiaomi Home App

The new Xiaomi Mijia refrigerator in the Cross Four-Door Exclusive Edition, is according to Xiaomi itself the first “high-end refrigerator” of the Chinese manufacturer. Again, a “gadget” that will only be launched in China. But when it comes to the first high-end product in this field, we take a closer look.

Xiaomi Mijia Refrigerator Exclusive Edition – Space without end!

The Xiaomi Mijia refrigerator is just huge for my understanding. It is almost two meters tall with a height of 1902 mm! Ok, not quite that extraordinary yet, however, it is almost a meter wide and 690 mm deep to go with it at 910 mm and weighs 121 kg. At this size, Xiaomi’s high-end fridge comes with not two, but four doors. These can be opened outwards by 90°.

Thus, its total capacity is a huge 550 liters; in comparison, this more common Bosch fridge-freezer combination “only” offers a total of 343 liters of space. That is 40 liters less than the pure cooling volume of the Xiaomi Mijia fridge, without the freezer volume.

Speaking of the freezer, this part is variably adjustable between 5° – 20° Celsius in 26 temperature levels. This means that the freezer section can also be used as a (very cold) fridge if necessary.

Hygiene as a top issue

When introducing the product, Xiaomi places great emphasis on hygiene. For this, the Xiaomi Mijia Refrigerator Exclusive Edition is equipped with over 120 million high-energy positive and negative ion groups for active sterilization. Thus, viruses and ethylene (jointly responsible for the ripening process of fruits and vegetables) are to be actively fought in the refrigerator and almost completely eliminated in 30 minutes.

Furthermore, the various compartments in the fridge are equipped with many small openings so that the air can circulate even in the vegetable drawer. Speaking of compartments: The Xiaomi Mijia fridge has several of them! Thus, a wide variety of foods can be stored separately from each other.

Even cooling & fast freezing

A continuous metal plate in the rear wall of the fridge ensures even cooling. The cold air channel is supposed to circulate the cooled air optimally in a 360° radius.

This prevents food from drying out or freezing due to uneven cold distribution.

To ensure that food freezes quickly and efficiently, the bottoms of the freezer compartments are coated with an extremely conductive metal alloy. According to Xiaomi, the process is 78.7% faster than usual.

How could it be otherwise, the refrigerator is of course equipped with Bluetooth and WLAN module. Like all smart Xiaomi products, it can be integrated into the Xiaomi Home app.

Xiaomi’s voice assistant XiaoAI, which unfortunately only speaks Chinese, can also be used with the Xiaomi Mijia Refrigerator Exclusive Edition. For example, the temperature can be adjusted via voice assistant or from the on-the-go app.

Assessment

Xiaomi offers a lot of smart gadgets in the household sector, which are unfortunately not (yet) available in Europe. Whether Xiaomi’s refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, etc. will be available here at some point is still written in the stars.

But I personally find it very interesting what the smart Xiaomi universe still has up its sleeve. If you want to get an overview of Xiaomi’s smart product variety, you can use the Xiaomi Home app for Android and Apple devices.

All you have to do is switch to the Chinese servers in the app. Afterwards, you can have a look at all smart devices in the overview, the variety is pretty impressive!

The Xiaomi Mijia Fridge Exclusive Edition is priced at 5,499 yuan, which is only 736,65€/$854.68. Unfortunately, the probability that we will ever get our hands on this model in Europe is very, very low.
