Oclean X electric toothbrush for $58.59
Cleaning behaviour, cleaning time … those are things your dentist usually advices you about. But you can also let your toothbrush teach you! The new smart toothbrush from China goes by the name “Oclean X” and reads really interesting from the technical data and functions. But does it really deliver in the bathroom? We have tested it.
- Oclean X toothbrush
Technical data of the Oclean X
- 21 days battery life (in standby)
- 0.96 inch OLED display
- IPX7: Dust-proof, water-repellent
- 32 Cleaning and care levels
Scope of delivery
The scope of delivery is extremely minimalistic. We have in the narrow cardboard box (which is also suitable for giving away):
- Toothbrush with cover over the brush head
- Micro USB charging cable
- small charging station (can also be used as wall mount)
- User manuals in English and Chinese

You don’t need more than that to operate an electric toothbrush, but there’s definitely one drawback: there’s only one brush head included. If it is worn out, you have to reorder. Fortunately these are not too expensive. Since the toothbrush for an electric toothbrush is not too expensive, you can consider ordering additional brush heads directly.
Design and workmanship
The toothbrush housing is made of high-quality plastic – just as you would expect from an Oclean electronic toothbrush. In general, you can’t really criticize anything here. Everything is cleanly finished, the design is that of a typical electric toothbrush. Only with a display. Let’s let pictures speak from top to bottom:

A CE mark is also included in the lot. When it comes to design and workmanship, you can’t complain. Everything is as I know it from other electronic toothbrushes. Not extremely high-quality, not cheap, good center. With a weight of 99.2 g, the toothbrush is also very light.
Operation without App
The charging station can be used to charge the battery and also as a wall bracket for the brush. This not only looks cool, but is also space-saving, but depends a little on the socket situation. But since the battery life in standby is 21 days, you don’t have to mount the wall mount close to a power outlet, but can charge the toothbrush elsewhere once a month (e.g. on a laptop at work?).

The toothbrush can also be used without an app via the control element on the top. However, it must be mentioned that the user lacks a lot of functions and possibilities. On the not too bright 0.96 inch OLED display in the middle of the toothbrush, the current cleaning schedule and cleaning time can be read in addition to time, date and weather. Without an app connection, however, the display is also somewhat obsolete.

If you just don’t want to use the app permanently, I recommend to install it once, choose the right cleaning mode for you, transfer it to your toothbrush and then forget the app again.
In fact, it makes sense to do more with the app on the Oclean X. And it’s even fun!
The App “Oclean
The app “Oclean” (Android, iOS), which belongs to the toothbrush, is initially dissatisfying. After all, many of us already have a Xiaomi gadget at home and would like to use the Mi Home app. Now Oclean. At the beginning the registration via mail address will be necessary again. The account has to be activated in your mailbox, so you can’t use a complete disposable mail address, but the spam mail.

The app is remarkably badly rated, so I took a few minutes to review the ratings. Most of the negative reviews fell on the connection with the app, which wouldn’t work properly and the respective language wouldn’t be offered in the app. In fact, no other language is selectable (English only), but connecting the brush to the app worked fine for me. More about that now.
Connecting the Oclean X toothbrush to the App
After registering and logging in again, the toothbrush is greeted by an initially tidy interface. However, it is not that easy to get an exact overview of all functions. Many things are hidden and require a few clicks.

Switch on Bluetooth, search briefly (preferably near the toothbrush) and the app “Oclean X” appears. Two seconds later, the smartphone app and toothbrush are connected. I don’t want to get into the negative reviews regarding the broken connection, unless of course the Bluetooth version on the smartphone is too old.

Personal data within the app
After successful connection, the app asks for some personal data, including gender and age. It becomes interesting afterwards: Now you can enter the condition of your teeth, your eating preferences (coffee, tea, cigarettes, wine or none of these options) and the colour of your teeth.

Oclean will then recommend which cleaning mode to use. For me it’s (yes, I’m a little ashamed) “Strong Whitening“. You can try this mode directly on it or choose a cleaning mode yourself.

I have been testing technical devices from China for over three years now and have a very positive opinion of China technology, but I am a little sceptical about products that come into direct contact with the body. I don’t really assume that the toothbrush will pull out all my teeth, but a little skepticism is also entrenched in me. Maybe I just saw too many videos of exploding e-cigarettes.
Several cleaning plans
So I’m a bit cautious and decide first against the tip of Oclean, I choose the cleaning plan “Sensitive Cleaning“. I think rather of slow, harmless rotations of the brush head, which should benefit my paranoia and my quickly attackable gums. At least that’s hope.

If the toothbrush is connected to the app via Bluetooth, just press “Try it now” under the cleaning plan and the toothbrush is set to the selected mode.
Firmware updates can be downloaded for the toothbrush. Also interesting is the possibility to create your own individual cleaning plans or to adapt existing plans to your needs. Various cleaning, bleaching and massage modes are available. These can be distributed on a three-minute cleaning plan.

The Oclean X in practice
Not in the dentist’s office, but in my bathroom, of course. A total of 32 cleaning and care levels are available, which individually match the personal information in the app. In addition there is a “blind zone recognition“. This means that the toothbrush shows its owner after cleaning in percent how much of the teeth were not cleaned. A practical feature. The value is also shown directly on the display.

In fact, cleaning with the Oclean X is much more fun than using a conventional manual toothbrush. With the many different modes and ratings of the last cleaning, you actually feel a little like playing a game. Let’s face it, who really likes to brush teeth. So it’s nice to have more long-term motivation with the app. Even if this probably disappeared after a few weeks.

I have to criticize, however, that after the many three-minute cleanings in comparison to the manual toothbrush I lack a little the “feeling of freshness” in my mouth (yes, I used the toothpaste as always), in addition my score is always 100 even with less exact cleanings on my part.
The blind zone detection does not always work reliably, but can be sufficient as an indicator. A small change for me is the comparatively small brush head, with which one gets better into corners than with my previous brush.

Still: More fun (or at least less annoying) brushing your teeth and more possibilities with the Oclean X definitely. It’s really impressive what you can do with your toothbrush with the app.

Conclusion: Buy Oclean X toothbrush?
My first thought before the test was: nice, first let the Anker eufy P1 track the weight as a smart personal scale, monitor my fitness with the Lenovo HX06H that we just received – and then brush my teeth smart! As good as the Oclean X sounds and works, I’m not 100% convinced.
So I have tried almost all functions and am absolutely not dissatisfied, after all, the individual options are really strong. Also the price of less than $50 is good compared to established manufacturers. But I don’t have the complete feeling that I only want to clean with the Oclean. But this is more due to my own skepticism than to the toothbrush, other testers surely come to a different conclusion and switch directly to the Oclean. I give her another week or two and then I look further.
