Review: Yeelight bedside lamp 1 & 2 from $49.99
Part 3 of the Yeelight series deals with the Xiaomi Yeelight bedside lamp. As already mentioned, Xiaomi continues to work on the complete coverage of the home with its own products. In the field of smart light sources, we now introduce the Yeelight bedside lamp in addition to the Smart LED strip, LED light bulb, LED Ceiling Light and the Candela.
A second version of the bedside lamp is now available, which differs only in a few points from the previous one. The main difference is the implementation of WiFi. Now the lamp can finally be controlled via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or IFTTT.

Scope of delivery & processing
The Xiaomi Yeelight bedside lamp comes in a sturdy cardboard box with a simple logo. The box contains the lamp, a plug and instructions written in Chinese (as with the other lamps). For the plug you need another adapter, which is not included. The lamp measures 22.1 x 10.0 cm and lies comfortably heavy in the hand. The base is aluminium and the rest is white plastic. Here, too, the lamp makes a qualitative and high-quality impression. The same applies to the bedside lamp 2, which is shipped in a different box and has a rose-coloured base, but has the same scope of delivery.
Connection or installation
The bedside lamp is simply plugged into the power cable and can then be switched on using the power button on the top. Then it glows pleasantly white. With the second available button different constant colors can be selected. Afterwards I connected the bedside lamp directly to the Yeelight App. Practically, this works very easily via Bluetooth. The Yeelight app has now been redesigned to look more user-friendly. The second version contains a few additional modes, such as sunrise and sunset. A candle mode is also included, but in my opinion it works not so much as a real imitation of candle flickering.

In addition to the standard functions, the Xiaomi Yeelight bedside lamp has other convincing features, such as a sleep timer or the wake-up light, which imitates a sunrise and is supposed to wake you up gently and relaxed. Furthermore you have the possibility to connect the lamp with a Mi band, so that the lamp switches off automatically after falling asleep.

The two versions also differ only slightly in the additional functions. LAN control is most important.
Features of the Xiaomi Yeelight bedside lamp
If you don’t have your smartphone at hand or don’t want it in your bedroom, you can also control the bedside lamps by touching them. Apart from switching on/off or the constantly bright color, the brightness and color, among other things, can be adjusted using certain touch sequences. Pressing the Mode key changes the color and simply pressing the Mode key starts the color change.

Conclusion
The Xiaomi Yeelight bedside lamps both shine in a very pleasant light, ideal for enjoying your favourite bedtime reading in the evening. In addition, the connection with a Mi band is advantageous if the lamp then switches itself off. I also find the timer and sleep functions, as well as the wake-up mode, personally practical. The LAN control has finally been implemented for the bedside lamp 2. Because of the small price difference I would recommend the bedside lamp 2. Even if you don’t need LAN control, you get the latest version with continuous updates π
