Smart floor lamp: Yeelight Star LED for $274.99/192,85€
The products of Yeelight are becoming more and more a regular guest at China Gadgets. There is a simple reason for this: In our reviews they were convincing and if we did not test them ourselves, there were numerous positive reviews from the community. We hope for them also with this lamp: the Yeelight Star floor lamp.

Design
There are no surprises. You go your usual minimalist way and it almost looks as if you simply put the Yeelight table lamp on a long white bar. The lampshade as such has a diameter up to 24cm and a height of 14cm and is made of plastic. Together with the base and the rod, the lamp protrudes 162,5 cm into the room. The base is circular and has a diameter of 25 cm and a height of 1.6 cm. The socket for the power supply unit is located on the side.
The aluminium rod consists of three separate parts which are screwed together. The transitions are discreet but not invisible. The top part comes with a control unit: an illuminated touch sensor as we already know it from the Xiaomi Mijia bedside lamp 2. Typical for Yeelight, the lamp is available exclusively in plain white. The light unit uses LEDs with a light diffuser attachment that diffuses the light downwards. But also upwards the floor lamp radiates the light through an optical lens.
App control & color
In addition to the “classic” operating options directly on the control module of the lamp, where the brightness of up to 900 lumens is infinitely variable and also the luminous heat can be adjusted from 2700 K to 6500 K, the Yeelight Star can also be integrated into your SmartHome.
The floor lamp is not only supported by the in-house Yeelight app, but also by Apple’s HomeKit. In the former, you can even adjust colors with a CRI of 95 (the color rendering index). However, it is rumored that one has to make concessions in the brightness of colors. What’s nice about HomeKit is the voice control via Siri for the smartphone. Alexa also has a Yeelight skill, but we haven’t been able to test it yet. So always comment diligently, if you already have experience. To make all this work, the Yeelight Star has 802.11 b/g/n 2.5 GHz WiFi.
Evaluation: Buy Yeelight Star floor lamp?
Yeelight has chosen the most minimalist design you can imagine. Foot, rod, lampshade. But that’s exactly why the lamp fits in almost anywhere without drawing attention to itself. The big brother of the Yeelight table lamp fits perfectly into the Yeelight series. Of course, a black alternative would have been nice, but if you don’t mind that, you can get everything you can currently expect from a smart floor lamp. The app compatibility opens up possibilities such as voice control and automatic switch-off. Apart from that, the device even fulfils basic functions of a lamp, such as lights. Joking aside, you can also get decent floor lamps for less money, but not with this smart package. Those who do not want to do without the SmartHome functions, but for whom the whole thing is a few dollars too expensive, can also screw a Yeelight LED bulb into the old floor lamp.
